Sunday Update

Saturday was a great day ... exhausting, but rewarding. After a quick refuel & recharge over night, we're back in the hall for Sunday :-)

There were already queues outside the museum when we arrived, but they were moving quickly once the doors opened (they seem to be moving quicker than previous years). It's a beautiful day out there, but that doesn't seem to be damping the interest of the public!

The hall has filled up quickly, but the staff have done a few things to stop it getting quite as hot as yesterday, so hopefully things will be a little more comfortable.

Hope to see you all later!

GWLS 2011 - New sets on show

There's a great surprise for visitors to GWLS in the form of not one but two unreleased official sets - on display are the 'Mini Modulars' set announced at the fan event in Denmark last weekend, and the newly announced 'Kingdoms Joust' set. Both are LEGO exclusives & will be available to buy in January 2011.

You can read more about the two sets here -

GWLS 2011 - first day going great so far!

It's afternoon on the first day; the number of public visitors has been similar to previous years - we feared that with the unseasonal good weather the numbers might have be down, but that doesn't seem to be the case!

The mosaic is slowly taking shape, there's lots to see & do, and everyone I've spoken to has said they are having a good time.

If you're planning to visit us later today or tomorrow, be warned that it's very warm in the museum, so dress appropriately!

2011 Visitor Newsletter #1

Hello again!

Firstly, we may have accidently sent you an Exhibitor Newsletter in the past few hours.  I've no idea how that happened but sorry for any confusion caused there!

In the meantime, we hope you are able to come to visit the show at the weekend and look forward to seeing you there.  We'll have many fabulous models on display plus other activities such as mosaic building.  The LEGO Store will be attending plus a host of other independent LEGO stores selling sets, bricks and accessories.

Here's just a taster of some of the themes you'll be able to see: Harry Potter, Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, trains, aircraft, castles and of course Westminster Abbey and the Royal Wedding party.

We're also hoping to preview the brand new Dorling Kindersley "LEGO Ideas Book".  This launches this weekend and features models created by our members at the show.

Finally, we have some special guests coming across from LEGO in Denmark.  Two designers will be at the show to talk to you about their work and the sets they have designed.  Their work is amazing...and you may have seen one of them talking about their latest work on LEGO Club TV: http://www.youtube.com/user/LEGOClubTV#p/u/12/ctconYz1Q3g

For more details about the Great Western LEGO Show, including directions, opening times and admission prices, please visit the show web site: www.greatwesternlegoshow.com

See you soon!

Curiosity Mars Rover

Curiosity Mars Rover

Towards the end of 2011 NASA's latest rover will be launched towards Mars. If all goes according to plan it will land in August 2012.
This model is of the Curiosity rover as it will appear on the Martian surface; you can see the six independent wheels mounted for maximum stability, the mini nuclear reactor at the back for power, as well as loads of scientific instruments to investigate the chemicals present on and in the planet.
The real Curiosity rover is about the same size as a Mini Cooper car and it's primary mission is to investigate if there is or was life on the surface and also to analyse the soil to gather information for manned missions to Mars in the future.

The build-up continues...

The show planning is now taking shape with some great builders and models signed up to display.  The local radio advertising is in the bag and the show leaflets will be in circulation over the summer holidays.  We'll post them here for you to see as well.

News will be breaking soon of some guests we have coming over from the LEGO Group in Billund, Denmark.  We're really excited about a couple of LEGO designers who will be at the show for the entire weekend to talk about their models that we see in the shops today.  More details on this to follow!

For those people who come from further afield, we're working on a deal with a local hotel to get you tickets and accomodation in one package.  Again, watch out for more info here soon.
